Evandale, Longford and Cressy ...part 1.5 of Evandale

Evandale, home of the Penny Farthing Racing and Cressy bakery just down the road and Longford squeezed in between.

Setting camp at the event we had a day up our sleeve to explore, job No1 was getting a new valve for the front wheel after having a feed at Cressy.

Cressy bakery did not disappoint with seriously nice pies, coffee, wraps, cakes etc so we had a great treat.

After our scoff and arriving in Longford we tried to buy a valve, the owner of the shop pulled out a brand newy and wouldn’t take money, he also said do the job here as we have air etc…couldn’t have worked out better, although we had only just filled up the day prior we bought fuel….$5.84 ….it was the thought that counts.

Ellen had a couple of hours of work to do at the Library so I had a relaxing walk around town.

Leaving Longford was the last time we saw Ellens phone, somehow she managed to lose it without realizing until we were back in Evandale, a call to the Library and the Police netted nothing so too bad and replacement is on its way.

The Penny Farthing racing, most excellent day out and the riders were riding for keeps with fierce competition, the Penny Farthing being name as the big wheel being the penny and the small wheel being the farthing.

The day started with the slow race, the rider MUST keep forward motion or they get disqualified, out of 6 entrants the last two put up a spectacularly  slow race with a photo finish and both riders crashing, all good the victor had the first round.

Numerous events throughout the day saw great fun and larfta, also behind the main racing was a car day, food stalls, stunt riding Danny McCaskill style…and a 5/8 Landrover with 99% of components made, machined, fabricated to an exact replica, this build took 4 years full time so around 8000 hours.

Every attention to detail was done even down to the number and placement of rivets on the tray and complete with a fully working 4 speed gearbox, a hi/lo range transfer case and a 5/8 size 4 cylinder motor that ran like a swiss clock and sounded true to size.

As I had to see more of it I had to sign the safety hazzard shit before being allowed to lay down underneath to observe the enormity of the little job.

Although not unusual laying under a Landy this was very special.

Our big day out concluded with beautiful food at No10 and icecream cos it was hot.

Thank you Evandale, riders and show people it was outstanding.

The last night was great fun with Vis and Lynda, few grogs, nice snackies etc, good times.

The next Mission was Burnie, meeting up Beth and Phil fellow Ural rider(s) and moto riders.

Leaving Evandale we kept choosing back roads on the map which took us through some seriously beautiful gorges and mountain roads, if you stick to the main road you would not know they exist, our advice is turn of the main road, pick a point somewhere weird on your way on the GPS and be prepared to enjoy.
